On 11 January 2017, our New Zealand Ambassador to Vietnam, H.E Wendy Matthews presented her credentials to President Tran Dai Quang. Proudly wearing the Korowai, the Ambassador was greeted by a guard of honour on the steps of the President’s palace.
Meeting President Tran Dai Quang, Ambassador Wendy thanked the President for his ongoing support for the New Zealand and Vietnam bilateral partnership. She noted the strong areas of existing cooperation in trade, education, agriculture, development assistance and defence, but emphasised that there was opportunity for greater deepening of the relationship in the future as New Zealand and Viet Nam build towards a Strategic Partnership. The good cooperation between New Zealand and Viet Nam in multilateral and regional fora was emphasised by both sides, with APEC and TPP as key priorities.
We wish our newly-accredited Ambassador a great term ahead, and the New Zealand Embassy will work hard to continue to develop the linkages and friendship between Vietnam and New Zealand.
